Diving in Komodo

  • Komodo offers a wide range of diving experiences: high voltage current dives, soft drifting dives, cliff dives along colored walls, immersions around monumental boulders, cave dives and swims, colorful reefs, underwater mountains and pinnacles, and sandy slopes composed of Both white and black sand.
  • The Komodo National Park is an exciting, rewarding and, at times, very challenging place to dive. The National Park is located between the coolest Indian Ocean, the South, and the warmest Banda Sea, the North. As the tides change, large amounts of water are exchanged and channeled through the narrow straits between these islands where the nutrient-rich waters are extracted from the depths, providing a constant supply of food for the reefs and fish here.
  • All this action can attract more agile hunters, such as the herds of dolphins or the occasional orcas and whales. This "flow" of water also functions as a temperature regulator, ensuring that corals are pristine and not affected by "bleaching" caused by sea temperatures above normal in other areas of the world.
  • The south tends to be colder during the dry season, between May and October, with better visibility in the north. Whereas in the opposite season, from January to March, the northern areas become colder with less visibility and the south is heated with good visibility
