THE SMY ONDINA

SMY Ondina is a traditional Phinisi, 32m long and 8m wide. This gorgeous boat sails all year long between Raja Ampat Marine Sanctuary and Cenderawasih Bay, with its whale sharks. Also, transition liveaboards allow you to explore the Banda Sea Islands : Maluku, Ambon down South, Halmahera and Lembeh Strait - up North.

She is powered by a 400HP engine and has a sail area of 400sqm; 110 and 220 volts electricity is dispatched through 2 generators.

Electricity onboard: 220v 24 hours per day. Two round pins sockets European standard.

Electronic sailing equipment includes a GPS, sounder as well as 16NM radar for night navigation. Communication is powered by VHF and SSB radio systems, and has 2 satellite phones in case of emergency. Medical and first aid kits, oxygen supply, 2 life rafts for 15 people, life jackets and fire extinguishers are available on board.

A water maker and 3 compressors (including Nitrox membrane) complete the equipment.

Ondina operates 8 to 12-day rotation trips in Raja Ampat and also transition liveaboards, a must, for about 10 to 12 days. This is a perfect boat for those who like long liveaboard trips.

From April to October, Ondina ventures to destinations including Sulawesi, Halmahera, the Bandas, Lombok, and from November to March it specialises in Raja Ampat diving cruises.

OUR CABINS

Ondina has 8 air-conditioned cabins with en-suite bathrooms, 6 Triple (double bed and single bed bunk) and 2 Double bed cabins - good for a couple or single person occupancy.

Triple cabins are to be occupied by two guests only, except for couples with children or groups of 3 guests with at least one non-diver.

AMENITIES

On board the SMY Ondina you will have enough space to relax alone, or to share a nice chat sitting in the cool atmosphere of our air conditioned dining room or enjoy a full moon evening from a comfortable hammock on our spacious sun deck before taking a rest in your A/C cabin.

For the photographers there is 24hr electricity to allow batteries and flashes charging any hour of the day. Individual charging stations for each buddy and a laptop for freeing memory cards of your digital cameras. The are big tables for photographers and quilted rinsing-tubs for taking good care of your cameras.

In the unlikely event you don’t feel like diving, swimming or snorkeling, we can arrange a walk through isolated forests, along deserted beaches or in the undisturbed villages we will come across during our sail.

DIVING IN THE AREA

Special Photography Trips 

For underwater photo enthusiasts, you'll find Ondina well equipped and several of the departures have guest Pro' Photographers, such as Deb Fuggitt, so please enquire if you have a special interest in these trips. The boat kit up area has a secure camera table, battery charging points and padded freshwater tanks to rinse your camera equipment. There is an air pressure gun to blow-dry your camera, and a CD/DVD disc writing service.

MOST RELEVANT INFORMATION

  • For Raja Ampat routes the boat usually leaves from Port Sorong and ends at Port Sorong, however a few trips can have different ports for departures and/or arrival. Sometimes this trip can start or end in Kakimana or Ambon
  • We will let you know the exact itinerary details after your reservation is confirmed. 
  • The nearest airport is Sorong/Dominique Edward Osok (SOQ). If the trip begins or finish near a different airport we will inform you at the moment we receive your reservation.
  • Please don´t buy the plane tickets until you receive the exact details from the operator.
  • The transfer from the airports to the ship and from the ship to the airport on the first and last day is included in the price. 
  • Transfers from hotels to the ship are included as well
  • Hotel pickup time is in the morning
  • Only two transfers are included, one on boarding day and the other on disembarkation day
  • Transfers other days that are not specified here are extras, they cost money and it is not guaranteed that the boat can do them since it is not in the program.
  • At the airport or at the hotel, a person carrying an ONDINA sign will pick you up (transfers are shared group, there may be a waiting time at the airport, depending on the flights of other passengers, transfer might need to go pick up others clients from hotels)

EMBARKATION AND DEPARTURE

  • Check in on the boat is is between 08:00 and 12:00.
  • The boat departs early in the afternoon on the same day.

ARRIVAL AND DISEMBARKATION

  • Your last dives will be on the second to last day in the morning
  • The boat arrives at port in the afternoon on the penultimate day
  • It is your responsibility to make sure that you are respected 24 hours before flight time after your last dive
  • Check out and disembarkation is around 08:00 on the last day
  • Hotel drop-off time is in the morning
  • Airport drop-off time is in the morning

EXTRA INFORMATION

  • Currently this trip is scheduled to use the port of Sorong(SOQ). However, the government of Raja Ampat is considering to ask all liveaboards on Raja Ampat trips to go through the port of Waisai in the future. Waisai is about a 2h ferry ride from Sorong and has its own small airport, Marinda airport (RJM). There is NOT a confirmed date for this change in regulation yet
  • Port departure/arrival can be changed due to internal boat logistic, bad weather conditions on previous week or bad weather forecast. In case of changes all transfers are provided to the new marina, cannot be issue of refund or compensations.
  • Dive gear rental should be arranged at the time of booking
  • Every diver should have an SMB (surface marker buoy) 

Photographers Special

HOW TO GET TO RAJA AMPAT

  • If you are diving in Raja Ampat then Sorong is the main gateway to the rest of Indonesia and the world, even though Jayapura is the provincial capital.
  • You can fly directly to Sorong from Jakarta, Ujung Pandang (Makassar) and Manado.
  • From Bali there are convenient connections via Ujung Pandang (Makassar) and Manado.
  • Jakarta International Airport is well connected with most of Asia and Europe. 
  • Domestic airlines with direct flights from Jakarta to Sorong include Sriwijaya Air and Express Air. You should be able to book flights with them online and pay with your debit/credit card. 

ITINERARY GENERAL INFORMATION

  • For this itinerary you are required to possess Open Water certification and 50 logged dives
  • The Raja Ampat archipelago owns the worldwide record of the greatest number of different species found in one single dive
  • Pristine and colourful coral gardens, outstanding landscapes, primitive fishing villages and Birds of Paradise
  • Diving in fringing reefs around vast “mushroom” islands, walls, slopes, canyons and caves

  • Early morning walk to see the birds of paradise on a display tree.

  • Many of the dives in Indonesia are suitable for all levels of divers, however, unpredictable and strong currents are to be expected anytime and anywhere. Inexperienced divers may find some dives challenging and may be asked by the Cruise Director to skip dives that are not suitable for their diving experience
  • Number of planned dives depending on the weather conditions and the route are varied but with an average of 4 dives per day - one dive will be a sunset or night dive.
  • Itineraries vary in length from 9 nights to 11 nights 
  • Some dives are in strong currents and the minimum experience of every single diver is key for the safety of the group

TRAVEL PROGRAM

DAY 1

  • Arrival and assistance at the airport. Collecting your luggage.
  • At the indicated time, transfer to the port depending the route.
  • Boarding the boat, welcome drink and presentation briefing of the boat and crew (depending on the schedule of flights will be the first day or the next day early morning).
  • Distribution of cabins. 
  • You can take some time this day to prepare your diving equipment. 

DAY 2nd to PENULTIMATE

  • Diving trip with full board and daily diving plan.
  • During the dive safary we will enjoy 30 - 32 dives.
  • You will dive the most important dive sites of this route.
  • Every single trip is tailor-made to create a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The decision on the itinerary is made by the cruise director based on factors such as weather conditions, dive conditions, requests of guests, schedules of other liveaboards, which we are trying to stay away from.

PENULTIMATE DAY

  • 2 dives in the morning.
  • Afternoon / night, arrival at port.
  • Dinner and accommodation on board.
  • Free time to enjoy the local atmosphere, shopping and / or optional excursions in the area.

LAST DAY

  •  After a leisurely breakfast, check and disembark.
  • Transfer to the hotel or airports

DIVING IN RAJA AMPAT

  • The Raja Ampat archipelago owns the worldwide record of the greatest number of different species found in one single dive.
  • What else do we need to say?…….ok, just add the most pristine and colourfull coral gardens, outstanding landscapes, primitive fishing villages and of course, Paradise Birds !
  • Leaving from the port of Sorong, in the “Bird’ s head peninsula”, we will travel through the archipelago from the island of Waigeo in the north to Misool in the south.
  • The area where we will sail holds the record of the biggest number of different species counted in a single dive.
  • The reefs of Raja Empat enjoy a healthy marine biodiversity with more than 400 species of coral having been discovered here.
  • Besides the abundance of fauna, this region contains numerous wrecks of Japanese ships and aeroplanes from the terrible battles held during the Second World War in this area. 
  • All the ingredients for a perfect adventure!
  • From Sorong to the Dampier Straits and from there to Aljui Bay, West Waigeo. Next to Kawe-Wayag, on the Northern end of the group, and down to Fam. Way  South to Misool and back to Dampier and Sorong.
  • Diving in fringing reefs around karst “mushroom” islands that combine walls and slopes with plenty of passages, canyons and caves. Also underwater ridges and muck diving in jetties and black sand slopes.
  • Wreck of a WWII P-47 plane.
  • Diving in the fabulous reefs in the Dampier Straits: Sardine reef, Blue Magic and Mioskon amongst others.
  • Night dive at Saporkren jetties (muck diving).
  • Early morning excursion under the canopy at Gam to see the birds of paradise.
  • Diving in Mike’s Point, Cape Kri and night dive in Yenbeser.
  • Dive the jetties of Airborek and around the Penemu area, in My Reef, Melissa’s Garden, The Lagoon, etc.
  • Afternoon ascent to viewpoint in Fam.
  • Dive in Sagof, afternoon in Baby Rock and night dive in Nudi City (Gamfi).
  • Shadow Reef (aka Manta Mountain), two dives in Jamur Boo (Boo Rocks) and night dive in Yilliet.
  • Few days dive in the fabulous reefs of the Fiabacet group, such as Nudi Rock, Tank Rock, Whale Rock and night dive in the small Yilliet.
  • Optional visit to Misool Eco Resort.
  • Diving the caves in Goa Farondi, The Friendly Canyon and Razorback, and tender boat tour to the lagoons, plus visit to cave with bats and stalactites in the afternoon.
  • Two muck dives in the morning on the black sand slopes of South Batanta, such as Black Beauty or Happy Ending.

CANCELLATION POLICY

What if I need to cancel my booking?

Your reservation request is obligation free and you can cancel anytime within the first 72 hours. During this time you can easily find matching flights and get answers from our reservations team to any further questions you may have. After you have confirmed and paid for your reservation, the following cancellation policy applies: 

  • 15% of the total booking amount will be charged if you cancel more than 90 days prior to arrival
  • 50% will be charged if you cancel between 90 and 60 days prior to arrival
  • 90% will be charged if you cancel between 60 and 30 days prior to arrival
  • 100% will be charged if you cancel less than 30 days prior to arrival

In case of cancellation the refund will be transferred to your bank account, credit card or paypal account within 10 business days.

BEFORE TRAVELLING

  • Make sure you meet the country's requirements corresponding to your nationality
  • Make sure your passport is valid at least six months after the date you plan to visit the country
  • Diving insurance is mandatory for divers of all ages on all of our trips: bring your certificate as proof
  • It is strongly recommended to have travel insurance that is appropriate for the type of diving holidays you are going to do
  • Check the electrical standards (such as which plugs are used) in your destination country before travelling and bring the appropriate adaptor if necessary.
  • The itinerary and the number of dives are indicative and are subject to weather conditions and conditions: safety is always first
  • All divers must provide their diving certification card
  • Diving computers are compulsory
  • Local rates, fuel surcharges, distance rates, port fees, etc. may change without notice due to changes in government policy, changes in the price of oil, etc. The changes are beyond our control and the increases must be paid if the boat requests them. We will endeavor to inform you of any changes as soon as possible. A change in these rates does not entitle you to cancel the trip.
