  • Existing of 700 islands and cays; one can easily imagine the variety of dive sites: wrecks, cave, blue holes and, obviously, sharks! Caribbean reef shark, lemon shark, nurse shark, bull shark, tiger shark, great hammerhead, and oceanic whitetip sharks.
  • Dive sites include tiger beach, fish tales, lighthouse, sugar wreck, bimini islands
  • The dry season months from November to May could have slightly choppier waters, but are considered the best dive season. February and March are most successful for bull and tiger shark sighting while April and May are most common for Oceanic whitetips.
  • The following is a sample itinerary of dive sites we may visit during your liveaboard safari on the Bahamas Master yacht. We wish to show you the very best diving possible, however, a number of factors can determine which sites we visit. Weather, tides, currents and many other factors determine the Cruise Director’s decision of which route the yacht takes and which sites are selected for diving. Whilst we attempt to ensure the number of dives we have scheduled is fulfilled, bad weather can hinder the yacht’s ability to reach a specified dive site in good time. The safety of all on board is paramount and we always do our best in offering diving at alternate locations should we be unable to visit those sites listed below.
  • Note: Diving in the Bahamas is comparatively shallow so where appropriate we operate an ‘open pool diving’ policy, meaning you can make multiple dives per day between 8am and 10 pm. However, this does not apply to Cat Island, where the Cruise Director will schedule 3-4 dives per day.
  • Guests are responsible for their own dive profiles and for obtaining suitable dive insurance to cover all diving activities. We respectfully request our divers to stay within the bounds of their training, follow dive computer guidelines and make decompression stops where necessary.

DAY 8

  • After a leisurely breakfast, check out and disembark.

DIVE SITES

  • Dive sites we visit include but are not limited to:

Tiger Beach

  • Tiger Beach is located off the West End of Grand Bahama Island and the most famous point for tiger and lemon shark encounters at a shallow (6-7m/19-23ft) white sand bottom. This is the ultimate site for photographers and videographers. Chances of spotting great hammerheads, nurse sharks, and the occasional bull shark.

Fish Tales

  • Another great location for shark spotting: lemon, Caribbean reef, nurse and tiger sharks. Very close to Tiger Beach but a little deeper with the same shark action.

Lighthouse

  • Just off of West End, Grand Bahama Island, this is a great shark spotting point. You may find great hammerheads, tiger, nurse and lemon sharks; even bull sharks have been reported to pass by sometimes.

Sugar Wreck

  • This shipwreck is a 110 metres (330ft) steel vessel that sunk about 100 years ago, carrying molasses. It features the resident green moray eel, enormous schools of snappers, loggerhead turtles, octopus, and nurse sharks. As it sunk in shallow water; 7 metres (20ft), you will have plenty of time and opportunity to fully explore it.

Pig Beach, Big Major Cay

  • Here you can swim and/or snorkel with the pigs that live on this uninhabited island. How the pigs got to the island remains a mystery to date. They are very friendly and used to humans, as they are fed by locals and tourists alike. They can drink from fresh water springs on the island. It is quite a unique and remarkable experience.

Cat Island

  • A bit further north of Orange Creek is one of the best locations to see oceanic whitetip sharks. Get up close and personal with these inquisitive and impressive pelagic creatures. Most dives will be in the blue of the open sea but the sharks tend to stay close to the surface.
  • Moreover, do take some time to explore the dive sites towards the south of Cat Island; for instance: the Spanish wreck that sunk over 100 years ago in 1898, which lies at 7-10 metres (20-30 ft) depth. The south of this island features amazing wall diving with drop-offs, blue holes, caves and caverns.
  • N.B. Master Liveaboards' policy excludes hand-feeding sharks. Instead, we will make use of some baiting/chumming to lure sharks to the boat. This entails a basket of fish to be hung in the water from the boat, spreading an enticing smell for the sharks.
