ITINERARY DESCRIPTION

DAY 1

  • Embarkation on VIP ONE at Travco jetty – Sharm El Sheikh.
  • Safety Briefing, Crew Introduction, Necessary Dive Paperwork, Cabin allocation and ship orientation will take place before departing the Harbour.
  • During the journey to our first dive site for a check dive, please take this opportunity to familiarize yourselves with the vessel and make yourself comfortable.
  • Please Note: This is a sample itinerary and nº of dives, dive sites, etc. may be subject to change due to weather conditions and other unforseeable factors

DAY 2 - 6

  • In most of the sites you will visit, the VIP One will be the only vessel, this makes the chance of seeing rarer and larger marine life more likely.  Even the most famous sites like Shark and Yolanda Reefs in the Ras Mohamed National Park are quiet and relaxed dives, as your experienced dive guide will choose to dive at different times than the daily dive boats.
  • Can you imagine the excitement and anticipation of an early morning or dusk dive, when all the boats have left and the fish think they are on their own?

Dive sites

  • The Temple is located on the north side of Sharm El Sheikh’s main Jetty. It is a group of three pinnacles rising up from 18m below almost up to the surface.
  • This flat sloping reef with its three main pinnacles, relatively mild currents and shelter from the wind, offers divers a perfect spot to begin or end their diving safari.
  • The straits of Tiran are a well known area located at the entrance to the Gulf of Aqaba and is accessible to divers only by boat. With four coral reefs lined up in a row from North to South the area offers some of the most impressive diving in the Red Sea. Each reef takes its name from one of the four British cartographers who mapped the area in the 19th century – Gordon, Woodhouse, Thomas and Jackson. Clearly visible from the surface each reef can be dived in a number of ways and offers a host of different attractions to divers.
  • Currents can be unpredictable and steep drop offs mean that many of the dives require a level of diving competence. The extraordinary diversity of corals, regular shark sightings, turtle encounters and abundance of reef fish make every dive in this region a delight.
  • The two wrecks sitting atop the reefs of Gordon and Jackson reefs serve as a warning to skippers navigating the narrow straits between Tiran Island and the mainland.
  • Altenatives is also known to locals as ‘the seven pinnicles’, but divers tend to call them the Alternatives due to the sheltered position and the fact it provides an alternative dive site if the weather in open sea is rough. They are a chain of shallow atol reefs running from Shaab Mahmud eastwards toward the Ras Mohamed coast. Stingray Station is a small part of this extensive chain which is located near its western end.
  • The Alternatives form a ring around a sheltered and enclosed lagoon. Boats will usually moor in the lagoon to take advantage of the shelter it offers. The outside walls of the islands offer the best diving as they have small walls and many large corals heads containing a large variety of marine life. The safe mooring, calm seas and variety of marine life make this a very popular area for night dives.
  • In 1879 the Carnatic hit the reef and sank after being dragged off course by a strong current. Lying parallel to the reef she is found resting on her port side with the bow facing east. The fore and aft areas of the ship remain largely intact with the most damaged area linking the two. The damaged area shows where and how the ship was broken and is where the engine room was located.
  • The cargo of the Carnatic was mostly cotton, mail for British troops, wine and soda bottles. Sadly pillaging of the site has resulted in the bulk of the cargo being removed but the wreckage itself remains an impressive dive.
  • At 27 metres the dive is a relatively gentle wreck dive with the only challenges being the relatively rough surrounding sea.
  • The Thistlegorm was built in 1940 as a merchant vessel. She was 126m long and 17.5m wide and was commandeered by the navy during the World War II. In October 1941 the vessel had made its way round Africa and into the Red Sea and was on route to Lybia, with a cargo intended for British troops stationed there. She anchored on the holding area, safe anchorage F, with the intention of moving North ward towards the Suez Canal.
  • Currents can be very strong in this area and the dive itself reaches a depth of 29m, which is where the stern came to rest, due to these factors it is recommended that this dive is for experienced divers.
  • Ras Mohamed area forms the peninsula on the Southern tip of the Sinai and is unique with its vertical reefs heading down from the surface into incredibly deep waters. This area is the spot where the waters of the Gulf of Aqaba and the Gulf of Suez meet with the main body of the Red Sea, as such the currents here are un-predictable and can be extremely strong. Whilst this may be daunting for the novice diver, our experienced guides can lead divers on some exhilarating drift dives.
  • Shark and Yolanda Reef is a very popular site which sits right on the Southern tip of the Park, experienced and worldly divers have often described it as one of the top 10 dive sites in the world.

DAY 7

  • 2 dives in the morning depending on guest flight schedules and the 24 hour requirement before flying.
